With summers becoming ever more erratic, it is easy to expect that summer 2022 may bring even more powerful heat waves. These heat waves can place heavy demands on office environments, with businesses struggling to keep up with their cooling requirements. They are also unpredictable, making them difficult to plan for. The heat waves in the spring/summer months of May, July and August this year, we saw a spike in demand for new systems AND an increase in emergency repair requests as old systems failed under increased pressure.

When Is The Best Time To Install AC?
Winter months are ideal for installing new air conditioning systems. Remember, you do not need to cool your premises in the winter and therefore, you can easily survive the couple of days which may be required to remove the older AC unit and replace it with a new, powerful, energy efficient air conditioning unit. Your installation can be arranged to take place during a period of downtime, e.g. a weekend for offices or the October or Christmas holidays for schools, so as to provide the least disruption.
You are also more likely to get a better lead time during the winter, as our AC technicians are not as busy responding to emergency faults as they are during the summer months. This gives you greater flexibility when planning your installation as well.
You can also take your time when making a decision, including scheduling a site survey and discussing a number of different options. With time on your side, unforeseen delays will not cause a blip in your cooling capacity, as the same delay would in the summer.
What System Is Suitable?
Some businesses exhibit a knee-jerk reaction during a summer heatwave, and end up installing a smaller system than is required, normally because it’s cheaper. Here at ACE we will carry out a full site survey and then calculate the heat load of the area you need cooling and propose an appropriately sized system that we are happy will do the job, even at peak conditions.
What often happens is companies will get two or three quotes and just go for the cheapest without checking what they are buying. This isn’t easy as some companies don’t state the model numbers and cooling capacities on their quotes but an ACE quote will include this info and more, so we are transparent as possible from the outset. Getting an undersized system installed can be an expensive error as during peak times the new cheaper system may not cope with the heat load and therefore a second system will need to be installed.

Is Winter Installation Cheaper?
Winter air conditioning installations are sometimes cheaper, due to the simple rule of demand and supply. There is less pressure on equipment suppliers over the winter, and engineers are generally less busy, so it is easier to access the experts you need at a favourable price.
